Two Amigos

"Since my first trip to North America, the colors of the west,
with the pale grayish blue-green of the sagebrush, combined
with the dry grasses of the meadows, have a special place in
my heart. The coyote is so well camouflaged in such scenery."

This fox kit is not quite old enough to be considered sly. Right
now, he's fuzzy, bright-eyed, innocent and totally irresistible.
"...One-month-old kits examine every little rock, leaf, stick
or grass blade around the den. It was a challenge to portray
and capture that look in the eyes of such a little creature."

Carl Brenders has never met an animal that he didn't love, and
this little skunk was no exception!
"...I often say that I use the animal as an excuse to paint
a certain background. That's really true for this painting.
I like to paint objects and texture, and in that respect, the
pumpkins were irresistible. And what better animal than a skunk
could I put in this painting? The black and white, and the nocturnal
behavior of this beautiful mustelid (a member of the same family
as martens and weasels) combined with the pumpkins made it the
perfect Halloween subject." - Carl Brenders

A cold, misty morning can dress the scenery with a wonderful
glittering ice cover, and that is what I wanted for my background...
Wolves often have to travel many miles, especially in winter,
to have a successful hunt. But I chose this title mainly because
as a species, there are many obstacles standing in the way of
their survival.

from the proceeds of this print to the Yellowstone Wolf Recovery
Fund. This non-profit group is responsible for the restoration
of wolves to their natural habitat.
